Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development

ABOUT US


The Directorate is saddled with the responsibility of stimulating research activities and sustaining the culture of research as the basis of academic life in the Polytechnic by creating synergy between researchers and funding agencies to improve productivity. It is also charged with the responsibility of harvesting the research efforts of students and staff for innovation and development purposes to make them known to the wider world. All dealings with Directorate have to pass through the Deputy Director of each School.


CORE OBJECTIVES OF THE DIRECTORATE


1           The directorate’s main objective  is to encourage staff and students to conduct research


2           To keep research and innovation a cornerstone of academic activities within the institution


3           To utilize students' research and development projects and spread its awareness to a wider audience


4           To foster a mutually beneficial partnership between funders and researchers to increase the output  of research, innovation, and development


5           Ensure that research, discoveries, and development projects are shared with a wider audience, to benefit the researchers, boost the institution’s reputation, and ultimately for the good of humanity


6           Ensure that academic publications and other research outputs are supported and encouraged.

These instructions give you guidelines for submitting your research papers. Use this document as an instruction set. Define all symbols used in the abstract. Do not cite references in the abstract. Abstract must be between 250 – 300 words.

INSTRUCTION TO AUTHORS FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACT/FULL PAPERS


?       Authors are to submit their abstract(s) in the English language as an attachment to fpnoridconf@fpno.edu.ng orridfpnoconferene@gmail.com no later than March 4th, 2023. The abstract should have no more than 5 keywords


?       The abstract submission must include the paper title, authors' surname(s) and initials, affiliations, and the author/lead author's e-mail address.


?       The abstract should be between 250 and 300 words.


?       The full paper must not be more than 2,500 words, 1.5-spaced in Times New Roman with a 12-point font size, using the American Psychological Association (APA) referencing style 7th Edition, and no more than 14 pages in all.


?       Where there are multiple authors, at least one author must pre-register to qualify the paper for inclusion in conference proceedings.


?       Selected papers may be considered for publication in one of the institution's Journals


?       15 minutes will be allowed for a summary delivery of the paper at the conference; the full written article is not to be read


?       All approved papers for presentation will be in PowerPoint (.ppt) format with not more than 15 slides, including a cover slide.


?       All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed by qualified reviewers. The authors are requested to submit their original and unpublished work in full.


?       Authors are advised to employ the IMR&D (Introduction, Methodology, Results, and Discussion) format for their full papers.


?       All tables and figures, images, photos, etc. in the paper must be serially captioned.


?       Authors should check the plagiarism status of their papers before submission. Note that the maximum acceptable similarity index for the articles in this conference is 15%.


All submitted papers must be previously unpublished and have not to be considered for review or publication elsewhere during the period such articles are undergoing our review.

Preamble


Over the last few years, advancement in innovative technologies has changed the way people live, work, play, and do business. Despite the many benefits derived from these modern technologies, most economies including our country Nigeria still face the challenge of having sustainable economic growth due to known and unknown factors. Focused research and innovations have the potential of changing the narrative for the better to achieve lasting economic prosperity, social inclusion, and environmental protection, leading to a new era of sustainable economic growth.


The first National Conference of Directorate of Research and Innovation for Development, Federal Polytechnic Nekede  Owerri Imo state Nigeria will provide an interdisciplinary platform for researchers, and practitioners from both the industry and the academia to meet and share cutting-edge knowledge,  recent innovations, research results, trends, concerns, practical challenges, etc that will help our country overcome her current economic challenges that will lead to sustainable economic development. The conference will bring together, academic researchers, students, business leaders, practitioners, and policymakers to deliberate and share their experiences and research results on all aspects of sustainable innovations.
