ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE POSITION OF THE POLYTECHNIC LIBRARIAN FOR FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC NEKEDE, OWERRI
(INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL)
PREAMBLE
The Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri is one of the foremost Polytechnics in Nigeria, located in the South-East Geopolitical Zone, Imo State precisely.
It was established by the Imo State Edict No. 16 of 1978 as College of Technology, Owerri; later changed to the Polytechnic Nekede, in 1978 and further renamed Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, by the Federal Polytechnic Act (Amendment) Decree No. 5 of 1993. Her academic programmes which are housed in seven (7) Schools are duly accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Its Mission Statement is To be a Pacesetter in Demand-Driven Technology" and the vision Statement, "To Nurture and sustain the Culture of Best Practices in Teaching/Learning Methods, Research/Demonstration, Skills and Technological Innovations in order to Produce job Creators for the Global Economy". So far, the Institution has lived up to these values which earned her the award of the "Most Sought-after Polytechnic in Nigeria" and a renowned Centre of Excellence in Academics, Administration, Infrastructural and Development of State-of-the-art products.
INVITATION TO APPLY
Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri hereby invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the post of the POLYTECHNIC LIBRARIAN of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri which will become vacant on 15th December 2022.
THE POLYTECHNIC LIBRARIAN
The Polytechnic Librarian is the Chief Library Officer and shall be responsible to the Rector for the administration of the Polytechnic Library and the co-ordination of the Library Services in the teaching units of the Polytechnic.
He/She is one of the Principal Officers of the Polytechnic. In addition to proven experience in library management and leadership, the successful candidate must have a demonstrable passion for academic endeavors and must also be credible.
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS AND QUALITIES
The candidate for the post must possess the following qualifications and qualities;
i.) A Doctorate Degree (Ph.D) from a recognized Institution in Library Science or Library and Information Science.
ii.) A Master's Degree from a recognized Institution in Library Science or Library and Information Science.
iii.) A minimum of Second Class Lower Division Degree or a minimum of Lower Credit in Higher National Diploma (HND) in Library Science or Library and Information Science from a recognized Institution.
iv.) A minimum of eighteen (18) years teaching experience in tertiary Institutions, at least eight (8) years of which must have been gained in a Polytechnic or similar TVET Institution.
v.) Be currently on the rank of a Chief Librarian from the Polytechnic Sector with not less than three (3) years experience on the rank.
vi.) Not more than fifty-nine (59) years of age as at 15" December, 2022.
vii.) Demonstrate evidence of strong academic and administrative leadership, initiative and creativity in library policy formulation, good human relation and positive managerial attributes.
viii.) Provide evidence of membership of professional body/bodies in library recognized by Federal Government.
ix.) Provide evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals as well as presentation of invited papers at educational/library conferences, seminars and workshops.
x.) Be a person who is not likely to pursue racial, gender, political, religious or other sectional interest.
xi.) Be morally sound, of impeccable character, proven integrity and free from financial embarrassment.
xii.) Be physically and mentally fit (with evidence from a government hospital); and
xii.) Be proficient in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT AND CONDITION OF SERVICE
The appointment is for a single tenure of five (5) years in line with extant provisions. The salary is consolidated and the appointee shall enjoy any other benefit attached to the position of a Principal Officer of the Polytechnic as approved by the Federal Government.
