Federal Polytechnic Nekede places much premium on staff development, says Deputy Rector
The Deputy Rector (Academic) of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Dr Chris Onyemenonu, has stated that the institution places a lot of premium on seminars, workshops and conferences as they offer grounds for academics to grow and enhance their skills.
Dr Onyemenonu gave this position while declaring open a staff development workshop held at the 500-capacity auditorium. He saluted the Dean and staff of the School for coming up with the great initiative of a workshop, urging other Schools to take a cue from the School of General Studies. The workshop was basically organized by the School of General Studies to equip the academic staff of the school for better service delivery.
Earlier in an address of welcome, the Dean of the School, Dr Anayo Uhiara, expressed gratitude to the Rector for approving the workshop, while pledging to sustain the culture of effective service delivery in the School of General Studies. Furthermore, he made it clear that the workshop exercise would enable the academic staff of the School “understand the nature of the organization in terms of policies, available facilities, as well as the organizational goals and objectives, organizational organogram, programmes and policies.”
A pool of resource persons drawn from the School gave lectures on diverse topics that would enhance the capacity of staff to attain efficiency. Among these resource persons were Dr Nnamdi Anumihe, who spoke on Teaching Techniques; Dr Juliana Njoku, who handled the topic, Effective Service Delivery; Dr Anayo Uhiara, who lectured on Stress at Work Place and Mrs Joy Kalu-Nwiwu who enlightened staff on Family-work relationship. Others were Barr. Chioma Toni-Duruaku, Pst. Chigoziri and Dr Obasi Oko, whose lectures centred on Staff Conduct at Work Place. Meanwhile, Mrs Sheba Macham, Mrs Meg Obioma and Barr Malachy Madu spoke on examination conduct and result.
