Staff of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede have been charged to exhibit competency, discipline and courage in their duty-posts. This call was made by the Rector of the institution, Engr Dr M.C.Arimanwa FNSE, at the opening ceremony of the in-house training and induction of staff at their career peak held last Tuesday at the main auditorium of the institution.
While congratulating the staff who made it to the peak of their career, the Rector urged them to be competent at service delivery, without which they cannot make any impact in the polytechnic. The Rector also identified discipline as the strength of character which is central to exerting a positive influence over others. He decried a situation where staff are unable to reflect integrity in their deeds, adding that persons of integrity are assets to any institution. The Rector also exhorted staff to display courage in their dealings. According to him “It takes courage to say no to sin in whatever guise – either in taking bribes or selling grades.”
The Rector reminded staff at their peak that they were getting closer to the end of their race, a reason they must exhibit transparency, commitment and passionate disposition to their work schedules. The smart Rector also charged them to be a mirror for others to emulate, stressing the need for them to possess the spirit of excellence in whatever they do.
Going philosophical, the poly supremo challenged participants with three rhetorical questions: “What legacy are you leaving behind? What effect are you having on people around you? What will become of the institution decades from now, going by the seeds you have sown?” In the end, the poly chief reminded them that the institution under him had won many accolades in the last three years, a reason they must strive to sustain the excellent heights already attained.
Earlier, the Registrar of the polytechnic, Mrs E.C Anuna, had indicated that the objective of the workshop was “to strengthen and equip our staff at the top echelon because we have discovered some lapses, levels of indiscipline, lousiness and lack of commitment to duties, hence we wonder what would become of the polytechnic when certain people leave the service today.”
Topics lined up for the participants at the two-day event bordered on leadership, communication channels, work ethics and effective service delivery, among others. The resource persons who were all drawn from the polytechnic did justice to their assigned topics, making the workshop a huge success. They include the Registrar, Mrs E.C. Anuna, Dr Obasi Otuu, Dr Nnamdi Anumihe and Dr O.N. Ezirim. Others include Mr J.O. Okafor, Mr E.C. Anaele, Mr A.E. Okoronkwo and Dr Charles Obichere.
It will be recalled that the in-house training/induction of staff at their peak was the first in the history of the polytechnic. It is also historic that the last promotion produced a whopping nine persons at the cadre of Deputy Registrar. This is a clear pointer that the administration of Engr Dr. M.C. Arimanwa is passionate about the career development of staff as well as their ultimate welfare.
