Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Engr Dr Michael Arimanwa FNSE has embarked on a working tour of some technological inventions made in his institution. This is coming at the heels of the historic electric car invented few weeks ago by the Polytechnic.
The first port of call was the foundry, at the Mechanical Engineering Workshop, where the Rector inspected a gas fired furnace which has an unusual capacity to melt steel in just fifteen minutes.
The furnace is a new technological breakthrough on its own because unlike the conventional gas fire furnace, the invention has a high melting speed and capacity.
Taking the Rector and his team through the operational dynamics of the super furnace, the innovator, Engr Dr Sylvester Adikwanduaba, disclosed that the device could heat up to 1500 degree Celsius, which is capable of molding any engine parts. He also informed the management that the furnace uses diesel as fuel, as the gas passes through an atomized devise which ensures that the furnace gets the required quantity of diesel.
Satisfied with the operation of the super furnace, the Rector commended Engr Adikwanduaba and his team for the technological wizardry deployed in innovating such a furnace. He further enthused that since Nigeria has no institution studying Foundry as a programme, the Federal Polytechnic Nekede might as well blaze a trail in that regard.
Markedly, the Poly Chief posited that Nigeria as a country could join the league of car manufacturers if super foundries are given a top priority. As a thoroughbred engineer, the Rector made useful observations to Engr Adikwanduaba and his team, which would help in no small measure at improving the capacity and operation of the super furnace.
The Rector and his team were also on ground to inspect a surveillance aircraft (drone) which Engr Sylvester Adikwanduaba and his team produced. The unmanned surveillance machine according to the team has capacity to take security coordinates to programmed agencies and departments. The inspection of the aircraft was, however, shifted to a later date to enable the inventors put finishing touches to it.
In another development, the Rector has paid an unscheduled working visit to the Polytechnic Microfinance Bank. The Poly Chief Executive was in the bank to witness the operations of the place.
On hand to receive him was the Managing Director of the bank, Mr James Enobong, who expressed great delight on seeing the Rector and his management staff.
He, thereafter, took the Rector and his entourage on a facility tour of the old Fidelity Bank structure contiguous to the bank, where the Rector promised to fast-track the process of renovating the place and relocating the Polytechnic Microfinance Bank to the place.
