DEPARTMENTAL INTRODUCTION
Hospitality Management Technology is a department under the School of Industrial and Applied Sciences, Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri.
BRIEF HISTORY HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY
The department of Hospitality management technology was introduced to the School of Industrial and applied Sciences , Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri in the year 2013 by the then Rector, Dr. (Mrs.) Celestina U. Njoku and Ms Nneoma F. Eleke as the Deputy Rector.
The department started with about 300 students, Four academic staff and a visiting lecturer, Dr E.N. Ukabuilu of IMSU. It receives it’s HND resource accreditation in 2017 and have graduated its first HND students.
PROGRAMMES/ COURSE OBJECTIVES
The programme follows the NBTE guidelines designed to produce Hospitalists who are adequately equipped to carry out duties in the field of Hospitality Industry. These goals and objectives are being achieved through lectures, practical, seminars, dissertations, tests and examinations including industrial attachment in relevant establishments.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
UTME REQUIREMENTS- English and any three of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.
O/LEVEL REQUIREMENTS-Credit passes in Mathematics, English, Physics, Biology and any one subject from Economics, Government, Geography, Chemistry, Literature in English, Further Maths, Health Science, ICT/Data Processing/computer Studies.

STAFF PROFILE
The head of department wishes to nurture and sustain the culture of best practices in teaching and learning processes, skills, research and technological improvement in the department in order to create new area in Hospitality and Tourism industry and improving on the existing ones for job creation for global, social and economic development.
UZOMBA NNAMDI IHEANYI hail from Amaku village, Oforola, Owerri west L.G.A., Imo state, Nigeria. He obtained a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Biochemistry from Abia State University, Uturu, Abia state, Nigeria and M.Tech (Environmental Technology) from Federal University of technology Owerri (FUTO) Imo state. He has over forty publications in reputable Journals both local and international. He has over the years remained an active researcher in the areas of Food Chemistry, Food Biochemistry and Environmental Technology. Uzomba Nnamdi Iheanyi is a member of many professional bodies among which are the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (N.S.B.M.B.), Nigerian Food Science and Technology (N.I.F.S.T.), Chemical Society of Nigeria (C.S.N.), West African Society of Toxicologist (W.A.S.T) and Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (I.C.C.O.N.). He has written some textbooks like Basic Principles of Biophysical Chemistry, Food Biochemistry, Basic Principles of food microbiology and a host of others. He has been an external examiner to some tertiary institutions.
ONONUJU VALENTINE IKENNA rose to the position of Lecturer II since January 2019 as a lecturer in department of Hospitality Management Technology. He is undergoing his Ph.D programme in Hospitality and tourism management at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. He also earned his B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Imo state University, Owerri. He is a member of Hospitality and Tourism Management association of Nigeria (HATMAN). He hail from Umudim-Obinta Kindred, Akokwa town, Ideato North L.G.A., Imo state, Nigeria.
His research interest is generally on Hospitality Management, more specific on the Beverage production and its management. He is passionate about Fresh fruit Juice. His interest in Leisure and Tourism research has influenced his academic papers. He is a committee member of 1st international Conference of Industrial and applied Sciences, Federal Polytechnic, Nekede.
His precedence and pedigree in sports has given him the athlete and vast coaching experience. Having coaching certification from International Olympic Committee; International Triathlon Union amongst others, he will be of immense benefit to interested staffs and this great institution in general. Currently the coordinator of Polytechnic Hospitality Management (Fruit Juice), his passion for Hospitality and Tourism has been impacted in the life of his students who benefited from his wealth of knowledge.
EZEIBE NDIDIAMAKA F. rose to the position of lecturer III as approved by the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri Imo State which takes effect on 1st January 2018. He also got his confirmation of appointment on 1st August 2016 after completing his two years probationary service as a full staff of Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri in the school of industrial and applied sciences (SIAS) into the Department of Hospitality Management Technology. Ezeibe Ndidiamaka F. is a qualified and registered member of Hospitality and Tourism Management Association of Nigeria (HATMAN). He obtained his membership certificate with certificate number 1287 in 2014 and also have his current certificate of practice with certificate number 1493 in his National Association he rose to the rank of National Membership officer of Hospitality and Tourism Management Association of Nigeria (HATMAN) covering the country at large. He is also the Deputy Co-ordinator of Hospitality Management Technology Federal Polytechnic Nekede, The course adviser for NDII Class and the staff adviser to the students of the Department. He is also assigned with the duty of the Hospitality Management Technology restaurant and bar where he is the manager till date.
His research interest is generally in Hospitality, Tourism, Customer services and New Food Innovation.
KWUSI NKECHI REGINA rose to lecturer III since 2018 in the department of Hospitality and Management technology of the school of industrial and applied sciences, she is a Ph.D student of Hospitality and tourism management, Imo State University Owerri, she also holds a B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in the same discipline as well as a professional diploma in Education (PDE) from Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri. She is a certified and registered member of the teachers registration council of Nigeria (TRCN).
Kwusi Nkechi is a member of Hospitality and Tourism Management Association of Nigeria (HATMAN) of which she is the national deputy treasurer. She as well has certificate of practice from the same professional body, she has written many conference papers in which some were published and also attended several seminars and workshops.
Being creative and innovative, her academic interest is on research and writing, she is since 2019 the coordinator of the hospitality management technology department restaurant.
Kwusi Nkechi is married with children.
UCHE LILLIAN OGUAHIANWA is a technologist in the department of Hospitality Management Technology. She took part in the resource-accreditation activities that led to the main accreditation of the department in 2014 and was finally employed as a technologist II on the 1st of August, 2014. She holds a Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) from Federal College of Education (Technical) Omoko, River State. She takes both National Diploma and Higher National Diploma (ND/HND) Students of the department in most of the practical aspect of the course, especially in the area of food and beverages production, Hospitality Management, Leisure and Tourism, Bar and Liquor, costing and control and customer service.
Uche Lillian Oguahianwa is the departmental welfare representative for the School of Industrial and Applied Science (SIAS). She was the departmental restaurant co-ordinator when it was newly opened in 2016 and presently the assistant co-ordinator due to rotatory nature of the work at present. She is as well the class adviser of NDI Students of the department. She has since her service years with the Institution attended many conferences, seminars and workshops.
She aims and work towards achieving efficient/quality service, always striving for excellence in all she does. With her creative vision and mentality, she engages in research works.
ECHEBE DORIS CHIKODI is a part-time lecturer in the department of hospitality
Management Technology, Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri. She
graduated from Imo State University Owerri where she obtained the
Bachelor of Science (B.sc) degree in the Hospitality and Tourism
Management.
She has worked as Assistant Food and Beverage Manager in Concorde hotel.
Echebe Doris Chikodi has gained several experiences while teaching in
private schools namely King’s word International Schools Oyigbo, God’s
Grace International School Port Harcourt, Jason Jessy International Schools
to mention but a few, while working in these schools she has worked in the
capacity of students Guidance and counsellor, a member of the Academic
Board and Secretary Parents Teachers Forum (PTF). Echebe Doris Chikodi is
married to Mr. Echebe Ugoh Livinus and they are blessed with four kids,
three girls and one boy.
AKAJIAKU NDUDINACHI ONYINYECHI came into this reputable Institution THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC NEKEDE as a Part-time Technologist II in September 2019 and till date, she is still a Part-Time Technologist. In 2008, she graduated as an Airline Ticketing and Reservation Student in a Reputable Aviation School (Anis International School of Aviation Lagos) where both local and international flight tickets are issued, tours are packaged and hotel bookings are done by her. Till this day, hospitality and tourism students are enlightened on these in the course of their study.
ANYANWUOCHA NNAEMEKA CHARLES is an Assistant Lecturer in the department of Hospitality Management Technology. He has a B.Sc in Hospitality and Tourism Management with a Second Class (lower division) from Imo State University. He is an academic staff.
OKPARA ROSEMARY EZINNE is an Assistant Lecturer in the department of Hospitality Management Technology. She has a B.Sc in Nutrition and Dietetics from Imo State University. She is an academic staff.
NWAKA ELSIE NWAMAKA is an Assistant Lecturer in the department of Hospitality Management Technology. She has a B.Sc in Human Nutrition from Imo State University. She is undergoing her PGD in Hospitality and Tourism Management. She is an academic staff.
NJOKU ONYEKACHI JENNIFER is a Lecturer III in the department of Hospitality Management Technology. She has a B.Sc in Nutrition and Dietetics from Imo State University and M.Sc in Human Nutrition from University of Ibadan. She is a member of Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN). UCHEGBU CHIDINMA UGBOAKU is an Assistant Lecturer in the department of Hospitality Management Technology.
