This is the Computer Science Department of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo State. We admit and train our students in line with the desire to make the best out of them.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Computer Science was founded in 2002 with a few students but also with a competent manpower. We have since grown into a large department of about five dozen teaching staff members and a handful of admin staffers. We are a dedicated and resolute bunch of qualified personnel who are ready to make your study dreams come true once you are enrolled.

MISSION AND VISION

We hold dear to our hearts the important mission to produce the computer science graduates who are morally and technically sound and for us, too, the overall vision is to set the pace in quality teaching and learning.

OBJECTIVES

As part of our specific objectives, we stand ready to give you the skills and the confidence to contribute meaningfully to ICT practice, in particular, and also to our national development, in general.

As a skilled graduate of our department, you are open to the world and we give you the training to take on her challenges. To that end, you will be qualified to take up appointments from every walk of life, including the competence to create your own opportunities. You will be useful in such diverse fields as commerce and economics, agriculture and biology, medicine and pharmacy, science and engineering, to mention but a few of our manpower penetration.

PROGRAMMES

In our current expansion, the Department of Computer Science at the Federal Polytechnic Nekede has split into more focused disciplines. We have been positioned to handle the following majors separately:

The Information Communication Technology Department

The Software Technology Department and

The Cyber Security Department

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

The following O’Level subjects are considered core to your being admitted into our department. These courses, passed at the minimum performance of a credit level grade in the recognized national exams, are:

1.    English

2.    Mathematics

3.    Physics

4.    Chemistry

5.    Biology

DURATION OF PROGRAMME

It takes four intensive learning years, excluding the compulsory one year for gaining some industry experience, to complete the programme. That’s five years in all and it is divided up into the two-year National Diploma (ND) part and the two-year Higher National Diploma (HND) part.

PROFESSIONAL BODIES

Upon your graduation from our school, you shall be qualified to be added to certain professional bodies. These include: the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) and the Nigerian Computing Society (NCS). This listing is by no means exhaustive so consider the above bodies or organizations as a shortlist that's deserving of a mention among a handful of important others.
