From the Rector’s Media Desk!
Federal Polytechnic Nekede has reclaimed its rightful place in the broadcasting sphere as the Mass Communication Department triumphantly regains its broadcasting license. This remarkable feat, aligning with the Rector’s visionary 11-point agenda encapsulated in the 4Rs, underscores the institution’s commitment to progress and innovation.
For over four years, the department’s broadcasting license had been technically revoked due to unpaid arrears, a situation that left the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) considering alternative buyers for the license. However, under the proactive leadership of the current administration, the necessary payments were made, securing the license and revitalizing the department’s future.
Dr. Mrs. Linda Ikechukwu, Head of the Mass Communication Department, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Rector and the management team. “This payment came at the perfect time. It’s nothing short of divine intervention, as the department was on the brink of losing the license. Previous administrations overlooked our repeated memos on this critical issue, but today, the tide has turned,” she stated.
The Rector’s unwavering support has reignited hope and ambition within the department. Mr. Evans Olewuike, who oversees the Radio Broadcasting Unit with passion, lauded the administration’s bold decision, describing it as “a redeeming torch” for the department. “The Mass Com radio station is now poised to return to the airwaves, becoming a beacon of excellence and a source of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). However, to fully realize this potential, we need a high-tech transmitter, a powerful antenna, and sustainable solar energy solutions,” he emphasized.
Looking to the future, Olewuike proposed an innovative dual-radio station model for the department—one dedicated to academic enrichment and the other focused on commercial ventures. He also highlighted the need for an internet radio transmitter, a modern tool already embraced by leading higher institutions in Nigeria, to position FedPolyNek as a trailblazer in the educational landscape.
This achievement marks a new era for the Department of Mass Communication, showcasing the institution’s resolve to enhance academic and professional standards. It is a testament to the transformative leadership and forward-thinking approach of the current administration.
