Federal Polytechnic Nekede Celebrates First Phase Digital Skills Training Graduates

The Directorate of Continuing Education Centre, in collaboration with the ICT Directorate, has successfully completed the First Phase of its Digital Skills Training Programme, marking a significant step in the institution's digital transformation agenda.

At the Certificate Presentation Ceremony held recently at Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, the Director of the Continuing Education Centre (CEC), Dr. Nene V. Ugorji, welcomed staff, students, management, and invited guests to mark the graduation of the programme's first cohort.

The training was conceived as a structured response to the growing demand for digital competence in academic and professional environments. Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Ugorji noted that the initiative was designed to reposition staff, students, and members of the public for relevance in a rapidly evolving digital world, describing digital literacy today as an essential capacity rather than an optional skill.

The programme received full institutional backing from the outset. Upon presentation of the proposal, the Rector, Dr. Basilia Igbokwe, approved and encouraged the initiative. Dr. Ugorji acknowledged the Rector's commitment to innovation and digital transformation as a key driver of the programme's progress.

The ICT Directorate played a central role in the training's delivery, providing technical collaboration and ensuring the content was impactful and professionally executed. The Deputy Director of CEC and the directorate's full staff were also recognised for their planning and administrative coordination. Facilitators Mr. Kayode and Mr. David Obasi received special commendation for their diligence and expertise throughout the programme.

Addressing the graduates directly, Dr. Ugorji noted that their discipline, enthusiasm, and commitment throughout the training reflected a genuine desire for personal and professional growth, and described continuous learning as the true foundation of excellence.

The ceremony also carried a forward-looking announcement: the Second Phase of the Digital Skills Training Programme has already commenced, building on the foundation laid by the first cohort.
