M.C. CHUKWUMA ESQ.

An administrator, Academician and a Technocrat was born on June 5TH.1963.
He hails from Onitsha, Onitsha North L.G.A. of Anambra State.

Married with children, he attended Reverend Anyaegbunam Memorial (RAM) primary school. Inland Town Onitsha and Abakpa Nike Primary School(St. Theresa’s Primary School) Abakpa Nike Enugu between 1971 and 1975 for his primary school education. He then proceeded to G.T.C. Onitsha between 1975 -1977, thereafter to Metropolitan Secondary School, Onitsha between 1977 and 1980 for the post primary school education.

M.C. Chukwuma ESQ passed his school certificate/GCE examinations in 1980 and the GCE A/L IN 1981. He was admitted into the Faculty of law, Bendel State University Ekpoma(now Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma) in 1982,He graduated in 1986 with LL.B(hons) Degree in second class upper division. Between 1986 and 1987, he was at the Nigeria Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos. He passed the bar Examinations in August 1987 in second class Division (hones) and was called to Nigeria Bar in October, 1987.

 

As an undergraduate, M, C Chukwuma was remarkably noticeably in student’s activism during his pioneering days of the faculty of law at the then Bendel State University (now Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma) Edo state. He was Secretary of the law Students Association (LAWSA) of the institution between
1984 and 1985, therefore. Between 1985 and 1986, he became the National Secretary of the Nigerian Association of law Students (NALS). This is an umbrella association for all law students nationwide. Domestically, he was quite instrumental to the numerous laurels won by the Faculty of law of the University during that period and which saw it emerged as one of the best faculties of law of the mid 1980, in Nigeria

 

Additionally, M. C. Chukwuma Esq, possesses two master’s degree, a post graduate degree in law (LL.M) from the Abia State University Uturu and in Management (M.B.A.) from the federal University Of technology, owerri (FUTO) respectively.

 

He is a consummate bar man. Professionally he has served the Nigerian Bar Association (N. B. A) In various capacities and creditably for over 27 years of his membership of the noble profession. He was the immediate past Vice Chairman, N .B.A Owerri Branch, the immediate past chairman, Human Rights Committee. He has been the Branch Chairman of the Bar center and Building Committee since June 2010.
In this capacity, he supervised the construction of The Bar center building, the association’s modern edifice within the High Court Premises, Owerri. Bar Politics apart, M. C. Chukwuma has had stints with law firms of Chief A. I. ONYAMA & ASSOCIATES & E. D.N UWANDU & ASSOCIATES respectively. He is an Associate, I. C. U. Nosiri & Associates and founder, Benatokwu Chambers.

He joined the services of the polytechnic on November, 14th 1989 as a lecture III in the law unit which was then domiciled in the department of business and Management Administration School of Business and Management technology (SBMT). The Unit was eventually moved to the department of Social Sciences, School of humanities and Social Sciences. Overtime, he had risen to the apex rank of Chief Lecturer.

Before his present appointment as the deputy Rector (Academics), He was since January, 2011, the director Anti-Corruption and transparency unit (ACTU) of the institution. While serving in that capacity, he brought his wealth of knowledge to the law to bear on the enthronement of due process and accountability in the general administration of the institution. An eloquent testimony to this fact id the unprecedented scales of development on infrastructure and human capacity in the institution since the advent of the current Rector ship Administration of the polytechnic in 2010. He was very visible and a team player in the development activities which transformed the polytechnic to its current position as the most sought after polytechnic in Nigeria, a pristine position the institution has maintained for the past four years in JAMB rating and rankings of Applicants in its Joint Matriculation Examinations.

 

On the in the international scene, he was the legal mind in the institution’s linkage negotiation team to Seoul and Kwangju in Republic of South Korea in April 2013, and to Minsk Republic of Belarus in July 2015 respectively. The team successively midwifed the terms of the current linkage Association and Fellowship between the polytechnic and such other technological institutions of repute as the Kwangju University, Republic of South Korea. The Republican institute of vocational Education, R. I. P. O., Minsk Republic of Belarus. Presently the team is developing a blue print for such a linkage Fellowship and exchange with the Authorities of Limerick Institute of Technology, limerick, Republic of Ireland. The linkages were technology-transfer driven and provide platforms for cross fertilization and cross-breeding of ideas and techniques of global nature from diverse climes. The overall goal is to check the adverse and rustic effects of knowledge in breeding and the monotony of readership associated with it.

 

Overall, M. C. Chukwuma Esq. is an established author and a prolific writer. He has published several articles, presented thought provoking seminar papers at different distinguished academic conferences, seminars/workshop like for a. he also has to his credit four standard texts in different branches of law. He has attended several conferences both locally and abroad. The last conference he attended before his present appointment was an Executive Development Program organized by Kaduna Business School in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) between 29th November and 7th December, 2014
