Electronic Engineering grew out of Electrical Engineering and with further researches, computer Engineering evolved from Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering is branch of Engineering, which studies element s from both Electrical Engineering and computer science angles, combing the principles and techniques of these two for the making and development of computer and computer –based systems. It involved designing and testing of computer components. also, it is different from computer science which is domiciled in the faculty /school of science.  A computer engineering student is firstly an Engineering student and thus is expected to study basic Engineering courses like any other Engineering student. Without these basic courses, he/she will not be registered as Engineering technologist or Engineer at the end of the academic.

Computer science students do not take basic Engineering courses, Furthermore, a computer Engineering students can be viewed as an Electrical/Electronic Engineering student with computer bias. this increase his marketability.

Computer Engineers are a part of a team who apply their knowledge of:

Mathematics and science for the design and development of a computer. Computer Engineers are responsible for designing, developing. Implementing and testing computer computer-based hardware and software , including the components that are found inside computer equipment, as well as  actual devices that contain the computer and the software that runs on those machines. They may also design networks that connect computer systems, and work on integrating software programs with computer hardware. `Those who deal with the computer equipment as such, are termed as computer hardware engineers and those who deals with the computer programs are called computer software engineers.

Software engineers should have strong programming skills as they are concerned with the design and development of many types of software, including computer games , words processing and business applications ,operating systems and network distribution and compilers , which convert programs to machine language for execution on a computer.

Hardware engineers are involved in the research, designing, testing, manufacturing and installation of computer hardware such as computer chips, circuit boards, computer systems and related equipment. Their work is similar to that of electronic engineers but their work is exclusively limited to computers and computer –related equipment. Computer engineers have the option of moving into hardware of software positions or blending the two. 

Computer engineers work in almost every industry – from health care and gaming to banking and online shopping. Computer engineers solve problems in hardware, software , systems, and networks so things like your laptop or big airplanes work properly. Computer engineers make current devices we use for work and entertainment faster, smaller, cheaper, smarter, and safer.

OBJECTIVES

The educational mission of the computer engineering program is to graduate students who have fundamental technical knowledge of their profession and the requisite technical breadth and communications skills to become leaders in  creating the new techniques and technologies which will advance the general field computer engineering.

Graduate of the computer Engineering programs will achieve the following objectives;

  • They will be technically qualified for practice in the profession. They will demonstrate the ability to specify, design, and implement software and or hardware-software systems to meet customer requirement or to advance the state of the art. The ability to employ modern computer languages, environments, and platforms in such tasks and the ability to apply knowledge of science and mathematics to such task.
  • They will be effective technical communicators, orally and in writing, and effective team members capable of working effectively in groups on computing problems
  • They will be ethical professionals, capable of evacuating personal and professional choices in terms of code of ethics and ethical theories and understanding the impact of their decisions on themselves, their professions, and on society.
  • They will be successful as graduates, either through professional employment in the private or public sector, or as students I graduate study.
  • They will also be able to employ life- long learning tools and techniques to maintain their currency in field.

At the time of graduation, student of the computer Engineering program will possess:
